Everyone knows my rant against Simplified Chinese characters from my post, “Pinyin and the Supposed “Simplified” Chinese Characters“. But I found a site that delivered it even better than I could:

Let me just share with you the picture that caught my attention:

PRICELESS!

Possibly going crazy

May 04
2010

When the latest version of Ubuntu (10.04) came out, I was hoping they would have updated drivers for the Intel graphics card for one system. It was a slight upgrade, but instead of fixing my problem of not displaying the screen resolution to the full 1080p like it’s supposed to, I can’t see anything now. That is, I’d have to reboot under “safe graphics mode”, and view some 800×600 image. That’s way worse than what I was getting before. Plus, every single time, I’d have to boot into “safe graphics mode” just to use the damn computer!
This isn’t as bad as my other system, which for some reason couldn’t finish upgrading at all. In fact, it came up with a message that said something to the effect of “Your system is no longer useable.” Great! So now I had to install everything by scratch, and lost a bunch of logues and data.

Computer woes aside, I’m still trying to find a job that pays well. I screwed up my phone interview yesterday, so that job’s probably gone. Looking at the dwindling money in my bank account doesn’t help. This makes me think even more and more about moving back in with parents for financial support, which is very depressing for several reasons:

  1. moving back in with parents. This means…
    • I have to listen to my parents nag at me for various things.
    • Have to deal with the older sister on some level.
  2. (On the good side though, whenever I’m asked to troubleshoot their computers, I won’t be forced to use GoToMyPC.com to fix their computers. On the other hand, that means I’ll have to fix every damn problem they have.)

  3. Moving back to LA will suck, because that means…
    • LA traffic. (I should get my motorcycle License and weave around it.)
    • People are paranoid as fuck, and for some reason they think that I’m the type of guy that wants to get in a fight. Fuck you all! Leave me alone!
    • If you piss someone off on the road, they’ll follow you home (and then bring some people back with them later in the night). :This has happened to me on more than one occasion:
  4. Thinking about these things is making me go crazy. In fact, I’ve found that I’m beginning to talk to my Cookie Monster figurine.

    Yep… Going crazy.

Afghanistan vs Japan

Apr 16
2010

So I’m watching an old episode of Bill Moyer’s Journal –good show, by the way. This episode originally aired on April 9, 2010, and the guest was Andrew Bacevich, and he echoed something that I’ve been hearing about the War in Afghanistan.
“We’ve been in this war twice as long as we have as WWII.” is one of the phrases I’ve heard somewhere. In this show, Mr. Bacevich has said, “…One of the obvious things about the Afghanistan war that is so striking and yet so frequently overlooked, is we’re now in the ninth year of this war. It is the longest war in American history, and it is a war for which there is no end in sight.”

Now he fought in Vietnam, so one of the things that comes to mind, is one of the former President’s of South Vietnam (who was a former general who came into power through a military coup) –maybe it was Dương Văn Minh– during an archived footage, said something to the degree of “If Americans want to win, they have to strike hard and fast. Because Americans can’t fight long wars. You can fight a war for maybe 4-5 years, but can you go on for 7-10?”

It got me thinking, what if the bomb hadn’t been dropped on Japan back in WWII? We had plans to invade Honshu, and everyone was expecting very heavy casualties. How many more American lives would have been lost? How much longer would it have taken before either side gave up or called for a truce? Would we have given up then too and pulled out like we actually did in Vietnam?

I hate these giant what-if questions normally, but I don’t know… Just got to thinking about it all of a sudden. I’m sure the same issues would have popped up: “For the amount we’ve put into this war, is it really worth it?” “How many more Americans have to die?”

28Feb-5Mar Week Recap

Mar 05
2010

So I drove down to LA Sunday, and I’m getting ready to head back up tomorrow. Wow, I’ve been really busy. Haven’t even had a chance to finish everything I needed to do…
Monday: Moved my stuff from where little pricks stole my stuff, to a slightly less open storage.
Tuesday: Slacked off.
Wednesday: Tried to visit my cousins, but they weren’t around. So I chatted with my uncle for a bit.
Thursday: I can’t remember, but I was busy.
Friday: Helped interpret for my mom, and it took 3 hours. Then, I went for some lunch, followed by some sleep, followed by dinner, and then I ended up working to update my 張學友歌原Tracker and even added a music video of a song I have yet to find the lyrics for. Yeah, not the most lively week, but it was full of being busy. Can’t wait to head back north.

Bad Moments for a Phone Call

Feb 08
2010

So, as I’m about done with taking a crap, I get a phone call. SHIT! It’s been about 4 rings! I gotta’ get this call before whoever it is hangs up! So, while these winter pants are still hanging around my ankles, I’m still trying to race towards the phone in my bedroom. As a result, I’m somewhat waddling around with these pants tieing my feet together, tangling up my boxers

Hey, at least I answered the call!

Thank you Readers.

I noticed today that there is much more traffic to my website today. To be honest, there’s so much, that it resembles another viewership phenomenon. Yeah, that’s right. I’ve got another attack on my site. To those honest readers of my blog, or those who like what they’ve stumbled upon, thank you. I just wish there was more interesting stuff going on with my life lately, that you could read about. Hopefully in the future, good things will come.

For all you other people, well… You know how much you suck.

18JAN2009… Rainy Day

Jan 18
2010

It’s been a while since I’ve had such a peaceful rainy day. This is the time to curl up in your Korean mink blanket and eat some spicy instant noodles (also preferably Korean ones). Best of all, it’s nice to occasionally go outside and get some fresh air, because I’ve been cooped up in my own apartment, researching how to draft up a business plan. It’s nice to have some friends over once and a while. The other day, we watched Public Enemies on Blu-ray, and I watched Invictus for the second time. The only thing that would make this much better, is if the people upstairs would move, so that their baby will no longer cry for no reason, and if my lent out DVDs and books would be returned to me. Being ignored really sucks.

At least I’m doing something productive… That’s right! BUSINESS PLAN!

IPod Miracle!

Jan 09
2010

Yesterday’s incident with the IPod made me convinced that my iPod touch
was a goner. I started up the screen this morning, and it stayed stuck at the apple logo without moving anywhere. So I thought, “Yep! It’s dead!” and was going to give it to my younger sister. Maybe she could exchange it at the apple store, and get another one for a cheaper price. I’ll go buy a new one. So then we were going to at least retrieve the music off of it, even if it didn’t work. Then somehow, it actually started working while it was connected to the computer, and the damn thing was installing the drivers for it. So I decided to unplug it, and it worked for a while. Then, I tested my luck by turning it off, and then turning it back on unplugged. Yep, back to the apple logo. So, we plugged it in some more, and then came to the conclusion that you had to download some more useless software to retrieve the music –ridiculous. So we tried everything again, and this time, it actually came back, but the only thing that didn’t work was the speaker. So… Then I had to be the asshole and say, “Nope! No iPod touch
for you afterall!”

Later that night, I was playing the music in my car, and along the way, the damn thing disconnected, which brought the speaker online again. So now it’s back to normal! I hope… We’ll see if any problems resurface some day…

有錢便易夢

Dec 30

Also available in 官話, and 廣東話
